How does MicroNeedling work?

MicroNeedling is a state-of-the-art handheld device resembling a pen that uses sterile fine needle cartridges that glides over the skin. MicroNeedling is safe and effective in repairing wrinkles, crow's feet, fine lines and various types of scars, including acne scars, in a proven physiological process called:

Percutaneous Collagen Induction Therapy. MicroNeedling improves damaged and aging skin by harnessing the mechanisms associated with the body's natural wound healing response.

How long until I see results from MicroNeedling?

Each person's healing time, level of treatment and skin problem varies though most start to see results in a few days to a few weeks after treatment. More visible results of skin rejuvenation are generally seen by 6-8 weeks following the procedure and continue to improve further over time. The process of skin remodeling and collagen growth can continue for months after treatment!

What are the indications for having a MicroNeedling treatment?

MicroNeedling treatments are especially effective for aging concerns such as wrinkles, lines, folds, crows feet, and skin firmness. Surgical, acne, chickenpox and other types of scars are also treated effectively with noticeable improvement to the epidermis. Small areas of tattoo or permanent makeup removal are also possible.

What are the contraindications of skin needling treatments?

Contraindications and precautions include; keloid or raised scarring; a history of eczema, psoriasis, rosacea and other chronic conditions; a history of actinic (solar) keratosis; a history of Herpes Simplex infections; a history of diabetes; the presence of raised moles, warts or any raised lesions on the targeted area. Absolute contraindications include; scleroderma, collagen vascular diseases or cardiac abnormalities; active bacterial or fungal infections; immuno-suppression; scars less than 6 months old; facial fillers in the past 6 months. People on anticoagulation therapy and other blood clotting disorders.

Are there any side effects or risks associated with skin needling?

Side effects experienced with the MicroNeedling will usually subside within 48 hours. They include red or pinkish skin, stinging, itching, tightness of the treated area. You will be sent home with easy aftercare instructions and an aftercare treatment cream that will soothe the skin and enhance results.

What is Percutaneous Collagen Induction Therapy?

By creating a controlled invisible micro-pinpoint dermal injury to the skin with the MicroNeedling, the body responds with a physiological process that improves the skin with virtually no downtime, minimal discomfort and short treatment times. As the MicroNeedling glides over your skin, it creates temporary microscopic pinpoint perforations in the skin. The superficial outer layer is left intact but is perceived by the body as damage, which stimulates the release of growth factors that trigger the production of collagen and elastin. Your skin reacts to any injury by initiating the wound healing process.

Your skin normally assumes that old scars, stretch marks, and wrinkles were repaired at the time of injury (but not effectively), but with micro-needling treatments, the skin is tricked into re-repairing itself and it does a much more effective job. The process of skin remodeling can go on for months after each MicroNeedling treatment. Immediately after an injury occurs our skin dissolves old damaged tissue and replaces it with new. MicroNeedling allows for controlled induction of the skin’s self-repair mechanism by creating micro “injuries” in the skin which triggers new collagen synthesis, yet does not pose the risk of permanent scarring. The result is repaired, smoother, firmer and younger-looking skin with minimal downtime.

How is the treatment administered?

MicroNeedling procedures are performed in a safe and precise manner with the use of the sterile MicroNeedling cartridge. The skin is cleansed, sanitized and a topical numbing cream is applied. As the treatment tip glides over the skin creating micro-perforations, treatment serums are applied and find their way through the open channels to the deeper layers of the skin to enhance the effectiveness of the treatment. After the treatment, a soothing mask is applied and pores are closed. A natural tissue repair cream is applied, followed by moisturizer and sunblock.

What is the skin's appearance after the treatment?

After the procedure, your skin will be red and flushed in appearance in a similar way to moderate sunburn. You may also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to touch on the area being treated. This will diminish greatly after a few hours following treatment. Within the next 24-48 hours, the skin will be completely healed but may show some residual pink tones in some areas. After 3-4 days you may notice some mild flaking of the skin. Makeup can be worn after 12 hours post-treatment.

What does MicroNeedling treatment feel like?

The procedure is not associated with any discomfort for most. Very effective pre-treatment topical analgesics are applied. The depth of the cartridge can be reduced if any discomfort is experienced.

How many MicroNeedling treatments will I need?

Each person’s skin condition and the rate of collagen production vary and require different levels of treatment. Those with mild wrinkles and fine lines may see improvement after just one treatment, while more advanced skin conditions like acne scarring may need more than one session. On average 2-3 aggressive MicroNeedling treatments will provide a noticeable difference. However, 5-6 MicroNeedling treatments will show the most dramatic results. The number of treatment sessions required will be determined during a consultation. Treatments are spaced at 3-4 week intervals. After results are achieved, it is suggested to maintain collagen stimulation with a maintenance program.
